Hey everyone,

There is going to be a beginner's trip to Whirlpool on Tuesday, the 18th of
this month, in the evening. Right now, it is planned for everyone to meet
there at 7:30. I will send out updates as I get more information.

Heather is going to be leading this trip. If you have any questions about
what you need for this trip or what it will be like, consult the UT Grotto
website at www.utgrotto.org and look at the New Caver Training links. If
you still have questions after that, let either myself or Heather know and
we'll do what we can to answer them.

The UT Grotto website gives a description of this cave, but I thought I
would reiterate the key points. As it says, you will be doing a lot of
crawling in this cave, since most of the passages are not very big. Some of
this crawling will be belly crawling, so you won't even be on your hands and
knees. This can tire you out if you are not used to this type of physical
exertion, so be sure to let the trip leaders know if you start feeling
really tired. That is the gist of the first half of the cave.

In the second half of the cave, there is a tight squeeze, called the Birth
Canal. While going through this, you will have to inch along on your belly
and you will have rock touching you on all sides. If you feel like this
would be to much for you, you are welcome to only do the first half of the
cave.

Let the trip leaders know what you feel up to. And let me know if you have
any questions that you still have.

Have fun!
~Matt
